Guest house directory
A guest house in Addis Ababa is a small place to stay, often run by a family. Most are a villa in a gated compound with a few rooms to about twenty, a garden, parking and a guard. Many have a shared kitchen or a kitchen in each unit, and breakfast is often in the price. Most guest houses in Addis are in Bole, Gerji, CMC, Summit and Ayat, close to the airport. A few are near Kazanchis and Piassa in the centre.
Guest houses take bookings by the night, the week or the month. Nightly guests are often visitors, diaspora families and business travellers. Weekly and monthly stays suit project teams, NGO staff and families who wait for a home of their own. Many guest houses give a lower rate for a longer stay.
Before you book, ask what the price includes: breakfast, wifi, cleaning, laundry and the airport pickup. Ask if there is a generator and a water tank, because power and water cuts happen in many areas. Ask about the deposit, the payment currency and the cancellation rules. Check the distance to Bole International Airport and to the places you need to visit. Get the price in writing before you pay.

The price depends on the area, the room, the season and the length of the stay. When a guest house publishes its own rate, its profile shows it as a from price with the date. Booking sites change their prices every day, so ask the guest house for its direct rate and what the rate includes.
A guest house is smaller and quieter. It is usually a villa in a residential compound with a few rooms, a garden and a shared lounge, and many have a kitchen that guests can use. A hotel has more rooms, a restaurant, a reception that is open all night and more services. Guest houses often cost less, especially for long stays.
Yes. Many guest houses in this directory take monthly guests and give a lower rate for a long stay. Ask what the monthly rate includes, such as cleaning, utilities and wifi, and get the terms in writing. Owners also list whole guest houses for monthly rent on Real.et under guest houses for rent in Addis Ababa.
Bole is close to the airport, restaurants and shops. Gerji, CMC, Summit and Ayat are quieter residential areas east of Bole, with good access to the ring road. Kazanchis is central and near many offices and the UN Economic Commission for Africa. Piassa is the old town, with older buildings and lower prices.
Confirm the name of the guest house, its address and the phone number on its own website or official page. Ask for photos of the exact room, the price per night, what the price includes and the cancellation rules. Ask if there is a generator and a water tank. Pay the deposit to the business account, not to a person you met on social media, and keep the receipt.
