Water tank prices in Ethiopia (2026): roto, plastic, fiberglass and steel tanks

Most homes in Addis Ababa do not get running water every day. The Reporter wrote in December 2024 that, according to the city water authority, only seven of the nearly 120 woredas in the capital have a steady supply seven days a week. Many households get water about twice a week. So a storage tank, often called a roto, is one of the first things a buyer or tenant checks.

This guide covers water tank prices in Ethiopia: fiberglass tanks by size, plastic roto tanks, steel and GRP tanks, and underground reservoirs. It then explains how to size a tank and where to buy one. Every price here is a seller's published asking price on the date shown. Each row names the seller, the page and the date. We do not take prices from marketplace listings and we do not estimate. Where no seller publishes a price, we say so.

Fiberglass water tank prices

Super Fiber water tanks are sold in Addis Ababa through several TikTok accounts that use the Super Fiber name. Two of them publish full price lists. The brand's own posts describe the tanks as fiberglass, from 200 to 25,000 litres, with a 10 year warranty and delivery in Addis Ababa. The two lists differ slightly, so we show both.

The newer list is ETB 1,000 to 12,400 higher for most sizes. The price per litre falls as the tank grows. A 1,000 litre tank costs about ETB 23 per litre. A 25,000 litre tank costs about ETB 8 per litre.

Plastic roto tank prices

Plastic tanks made by rotational moulding are what most people mean by a roto. Sellers in Ethiopia advertise brands such as GEEPEE, Roto and 3P. No seller in our review publishes a current price for a plastic roto tank on its own website or official account. Atlas Fitting Engineering PLC posts roto and GEEPEE tanks on its TikTok account, but gives prices by phone. 3P advertises plastic tanks from 500 to 15,000 litres with a 10 year warranty, also without a price.

We do not copy plastic tank prices from marketplace listings, because a listing does not always say the size, the brand or the date. We will add rows as soon as a maker or dealer publishes a price list. Until then, call two or three dealers with the size you want, and compare against the fiberglass table above.

Steel and GRP modular tank prices

Stainless steel tanks suit hotels, apartment blocks and homes that want a tank that does not age in the sun. GRP modular tanks are bolted together from panels, so they fit on a roof or in a basement where a single round tank will not go. No seller in our review publishes a price for either type. Sellers quote by project:

• GRP Global Trading PLC. Supplies GRP modular and stainless steel tanks from an office in Debrewerk Tower, Mexico, and gives quotes through its website.
• Stainless steel sellers in Summit and other areas. One seller near Summit advertises stainless tanks from 500 litres to 500,000 litres.

Underground reservoir costs

An underground reservoir is a concrete or masonry tank built below the compound. No seller publishes a fixed price, because a contractor prices it from the size, the soil and the materials. The main costs are cement, rebar, sand, gravel and labour. See construction material prices in Ethiopia for current material prices. A reservoir needs a pump to lift water to the house, so add the cost of a pump and wiring.

What drives water tank prices

Material

Plastic roto tanks are light and easy to install. Fiberglass tanks are rigid and come in sizes up to 25,000 litres. Stainless steel does not rust and suits hotels and large buildings. A concrete reservoir is built in place and can hold far more than one tank.

Size

A bigger tank costs more in total but less per litre, as the fiberglass table shows.

Raw materials and the exchange rate

Plastic resin, glass fibre and stainless steel are imported. When the birr weakens or freight costs rise, makers raise their prices.

Warranty and delivery

A 10 year warranty and free delivery are common in Addis Ababa. Delivery outside the city, a crane for a roof tank, or a steel stand add to the cost.

How to size a water tank for your home

Work out how much water your household uses in a day, then how many days the supply is off. Multiply the two and add a margin.

• Daily use. Many families use 30 to 60 litres per person per day for cooking, drinking, washing and the toilet. A family of five at 50 litres each uses 250 litres a day.
• Days without supply. If water comes twice a week, you may wait three or four days between deliveries.
• Tank size. 250 litres for 4 days is 1,000 litres. A 2,000 litre tank gives you a safe margin.

A villa with a garden, a car to wash or tenants needs more. Many owners combine a large ground tank with a small roof tank and a pump. If you share a compound, agree with the others who pays for the tank and the pump.

Installation tips

• Put the tank on a firm, level base. A full 2,000 litre tank weighs about two tonnes.
• Fit a float valve so the tank stops filling when full.
• Keep the tank out of direct sun if it is plastic, or buy a UV stabilised model.
• Clean the tank at least once a year. Tank cleaning services in Addis Ababa advertise this work.
• In a condominium, ask the building association before you add a tank to a balcony or roof. See our condominium guide.

Where to buy a water tank

• Merkato. Super Fiber sellers list an address in Merkato and deliver across Addis Ababa.
• Adama. Dealers such as Sena Trading in Sar Tera sell all sizes.
• Summit. Stainless steel tank sellers.
• Online. Most makers post on TikTok, Telegram and Facebook and deliver to your home.

Checklist before you pay

• Ask for the material, the brand and the exact size in litres.
• Ask whether the price includes VAT, delivery and lifting onto the roof.
• Ask for the warranty in writing.
• Check the tank for cracks and an even wall before you sign for delivery.
• Keep the receipt with the brand and size.

A tank, a pump and backup power often go together. See generator prices and solar panel prices to plan the full setup. If you are still choosing a home, our guide to house prices in Addis Ababa covers what homes cost by area.
